Clear Space awarded in 2 different categories at 2011 Design Exchange Awards

Clear Space showed its creative diversity by winning awards in two different categories at this years Design Exchange Awards. The winning entries include: a silver in the interactive category for the Spellingbee Communication website design, and an honourable mention award in a newly created campaign category for the Sunnybrook Donation Vehicle design. Partners Will Hum and Paul Ratchford were on hand to receive the awards presented by Global news anchor Leslie Roberts, RGD Executive Director, Hilary Ashworth and RGD President, Lionel Gadoury.

Clear Space picks up two international design awards


Clear Space is pleased to announce that two of its brand marks, Sunnybrook's Labour of Love and Invest Toronto, has been selected as winners in the 2010 Wolda awards. Judges were particularly selective by choosing only 200 winners out of 1,381 entries submitted from all over the world!

Wolda is an international design competition that recognizes the best brand identities and trademarks designed throughout the world.

Clear Space brings to life 4 new super heroes for CMYK: Heroes Wanted


The success of the inaugural CMYK contest last year has prompted Unisource Canada to do it again for 2011. Better and bigger prizes and a new look created by Clear Space helped launch the contest in search of Canada's Top Print Reps. The theme, Heroes Wanted, was developed and the task was on to invent 4 new super heroes (drawn by Alexander Perkins) with powers so great they would be the envy of all print reps across Canada.

Clear Space awarded at the Reggies

Clear Space has been recognized in Design Edge Canada's 2011 Regional Design Awards. The Comms Dept. identity and Jones Lowry Vision Book took finalist awards while the Spellingbee holiday card (a collaboration with Spellingbee Communication) tied Zulu Alpha Kilo as a winner in its category. The event was hosted at the Gladstone Hotel in Toronto with finalists and designers in attendance from across the country.

Clear Space designs and develops Drupal themed website for RNAO


Clear Space designed and developed Drupal themes for the Registered Nurses' Association of Ontario, Careers in Nursing website. The launch of the website coincided with Nursing Week 2011 and was a joint project between the RNAO and the Ontario Ministry of Health. Careersinnursing.com is a comprehensive site developed to invite new nurses to join and to encourage existing nurses to explore new opportunities.

8 foot donation vehicle installed at Sunnybrook's M-Wing

As part of a larger on-site marketing initiative, Sunnybrook invited Clear Space to custom design a suite of unique donation vehicles. The five month project started with doodles on napkins and has resulted in the production of nine three-dimensional structures ranging from five to eight feet tall with the largest weighing almost 1,000 lbs.

Magazine design receives highest accolade at HYGEIA Awards


The Health Care Public Relations Association has selected Clear Space's Baycrest Breakthroughs magazine design in its annual Hygeia Awards. The 2010 magazine series published as an insert of the Globe & Mail took first prize in this year's category of external publications.

The Hygeia Awards honour outstanding communications and journalism pieces across Canada.

Canadian Chiropractic Association selects Clear Space as design agency of record



As the new agency of record, Clear Space is partnering with Agility CMS to provide the Canadian Chiropractic Association with a strategic design and communications plan including the development of a fully content-managed website.

The CCA represents the chiropractic profession in Canada in collaboration with its provincial members. The vision of the CCA is for every Canadian to have full and equitable access to chiropractic care. The mission is to help Canadians live healthier lives by informing the public about the benefits of chiropractic care, facilitating chiropractic research, and advocating for health care system reform ensuring quality health care for all Canadians.

Clear Space branding project NRWC takes flight




Renewable Energy Business Ltd. and Daniels Power Corporation has partnered together to create NRWC, Niagara Region Wind Corporation, a Canadian company focused on the development of renewable energy projects. Clear Space was enlisted to create a friendly, corporate identity with work that includes logo design, visual style design, website development and print collateral.

Judging Applied Arts Student Awards Competition


Creative Director Will Hum has been confirmed as a judge for the 2011 Applied Arts Student Awards. Will joins an esteemed group of professionals from across the country and the U.S.

Open to all students in creative advertising, graphic design, interactive media, photography and illustration, the Applied Arts Student Awards is the largest and most respected show of its kind in North America.

Clear Space produces video for Invest Toronto


As part of a large rebrand project for Invest Toronto, Clear Space was tasked to produce a short video vignette to help introduce the organization online and before key presentations.

Clear Space scripted and art directed the 45 second short ensuring the new brand came alive in video format. An original score accompanied footage of a vibrant city concluding with an animation of the new logo and the sound of a custom audio mnemonic.

A Labour of Love


Clear Space is proud to announce that over 800 people turned out in the rain on August 22nd to support Sunnybrook’s Women & Babies Program.

The walk was a huge success having achieved its fundraising goal of $140,000 net. We'd like to think our creative contribution played a small role in its success. The Labour of Love campaign has been in high visibility over the last few months with posters, signage, POP displays and even a whole bus wrapped with graphics!

Judging Design at Work



The annual RGD Design at Work committee has invited Clear Space Creative Director, Will Hum to judge the 2010 competition. This year, Will is partnering with Sunnybrook Foundation's VP of Communications & Chief Marketing Officer Pamela Ross to review entries in the Brand category as well as the Government, Non-Profit & Green category.

Design at Work is a juried exhibit of professional graphic design demonstrating how design creates value for business.

Invest Toronto selects Clear Space for Rebrand


Clear Space is proud to announce that it has been selected as the design agency to tackle Invest Toronto's rebrand. Our firm was chosen from over 100 proponents which included many leading brand design firms across the city.

Invest Toronto Inc. is a new arms length organization whose main shareholder is the City of Toronto. Invest Toronto will engage the private sector and other public sector partners to promote Toronto as a destination for businesses to invest, grow and prosper. The overarching goal of Invest Toronto is the enhancement of the economic competitiveness of the City of Toronto globally.

The branding initiative includes positioning, messaging, identity design and the production of various applications such as graphic standards, print collateral, signage and promotional items.

Clear Space brands Sunnybrook's Labour of Love campaign


The Women & Babies Program at Sunnybrook is moving from Women’s College Hospital to its new, state-of-the-art home at Sunnybrook’s Bayview campus. As part of a number of events and initiatives to promote the move, Sunnybrook asked Clear Space to design the brand identity for Labour of Love, a 9km walk on August 22nd to raise funds and awareness for the new facility. The event was launched on Mother's Day at Women's College with great media turnout.

Paul Ratchford announced as a new RGD Board member for 2010-2012


RGD Ontario held its Annual Meeting at City Hall in Toronto, on Saturday April 24th. The meeting was chaired by President, Lionel Gadoury at which the Chairs of the RGD's various committees presented reports on their activities and accomplishments over the past year. Future programs and projects were also discussed and new board members were appointed.

Clear Space Principal Paul Ratchford speaks at RGD Ontario breakfast forum


RGD Ontario recently gathered a group of firm principals and partners together to talk about the trends and challenges facing studio heads, including RFP’s, staffing and social media. Clear Space Principal Paul Ratchford sat along side an esteemed group including: Debbie Adams, Lionel Gadoury, James Wilson and Scott Christie.

The Association of Registered Graphic Designers of Ontario represents more than 3,000 graphic designers, managers, educators and students across Ontario.

The Best of Business Card Design by Rockport features an innovative collection of the most current and best work by top designers worldwide. The "go-to" sourcebook for business card design inspiration, this volume contains pages packed with business cards, showing front, back, and special elements and materials.

Clear Space is proud to announce that four of its business card designs has been selected including work for Main Street Psychological Centre, pgm Design Associates, Del Monte Group and also Clear Space's own business cards.
